I hope you are doing well and staying safe in these trying times. I wanted to give you an update on FYM as I haven’t been in contact for a while.
COVID-19 has caused a massive delay in sauce production, I have struggled getting ingredients and ran out of sauce for a bit. Luckily I have more sauce now, hopefully I can keep it in stock for the future. Before I get to the discount code, I want to ask for your help.
The United States Postal Service is in trouble, and it is the only thing right now keeping FYM afloat. In 2006, Congress passed a law requiring the USPS to pre-pay, over a period of 10 years, retirement benefits for all current and future employees. Yes, that means they had to fund benefits for employees that haven’t even been born yet.
Before this legislation was passed, the USPS was a profitable entity and unsurprisingly, this 2006 law put them underwater. They are the only organization, public or private, that the United States Government requires to pre-pay 75 years into the future.
Currently to ship a single bottle of hot sauce, I pay $6. 3-6 bottles shipped costs me $8-9. The USPS does not lose money shipping these, they are also legally required to charge above their costs but they legally prevented from raising prices over a certain percent every year to cover the costs of their pre-payments.
If the USPS were closed down, FedEx or UPS would charge me $14 to ship a single bottle, and over $20 for 3+ bottles. Essentially I would have to double my prices to keep selling hot sauce, and I wouldn’t feel comfortable selling 3 bottles for $50 so I would close up shop. With all of the online businesses out there I can only imagine that a lot of your other preferred online stores (including Amazon) would have to increase their prices astronomically as well.
So how can you help? Please contact your Congressional Representatives or Senators and tell them how you need them to pass legislation helping the USPS so you can continue purchasing FYM to slather your meals with. I am attaching some links where you can find your Senators or Representatives and send them an email, or call them up.
You could also buy stamps as well. A forever stamp will always send a letter, even 10 years from now. I am sure that the people you love would absolutely adore receiving physical letter from you as well.
